Exploring a Unique Steam Demo: Controlling a Piece of Feces in a Mission to Arrive at the Toilet

Steam Next Fest is now live, and enthusiasts have found plenty of entertaining creations from small studios. Yet, one catches the eye for its unconventional concept. Named Unko Technica, this old-school styled jumping adventure features a protagonist that is truly a turd attempting to travel to a restroom. For those curious, "Unko" is Japanese for "poop."

The gameplay is simple: press a one button to leap. In one hundred fifty levels, you'll face boss fights and access a shop to acquire customizations for your fecal avatar.

Execute your movements carefully, since one wrong move means beginning again. Leap off bubbles to propel the poop upward, cross fragile surfaces, and touch switches to unlock hidden paths. Collect coins to purchase tougher game content as things intensifies.

Graphically, the game shows off neon environments and catchy soundtrack. The retro art of morphing abstract forms could recall fans of beloved games like Earthbound.

Although hard to name previous releases where you play as a coiled turd, interactive entertainment have long featured fecal matter. For instance, in Death Stranding, you can create grenades from protagonist waste. Titles such as Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved employ manure as soil enrichment. Naturally, fecal references is present a lot in the role-playing game The Stick of Truth.

Regardless of its silly concept, Unko Technica has already received significant awards, including taking top honors at a major publisher's indie contest in 2023. A playable preview is ready now on Steam, with the complete version scheduled to debut on Steam this November.
